I purchased a 1tb external HD from the Gosforth Shop for my son's Birthday. It was the best deal in the area and my son was delighted, no problems in recognition. I had a few vouchers to be redeemed before a certain date, so I decided to treat myself to a 1 tb internal.I w3as not ripped off, It was a great deal and no problems fitting it. I think you have to have a small bit of knowledge before tinkering, any failures due to shock or power surge can hardly be blamed on Orbit
Dear Steven H. I am sorry to hear about your experience with Computer orBit. However, I must admit that I am very surprised and find it very hard to believe that something like this could have happened. We do not and have never used any external hard drives with any of our repairs for productivity, security and reliability reasons. Especially not when dealing with customers data. If you would like to contact me (tel:0191 420 7700) hopefully we can clarify what has actually happened in this instance. In regards to the information's commissioners office we have contacted them previously and according to them we have not failed to comply in any way. Kind Regards, Oliver.
I bought an external hard drive from them. When I got it home it contained other peoples data. It looked like they had used it in the workshop to back up a customers PC. I found a telephone number on a CV in the my documents file on the drive and rang them up. They were very shocked as they had taken their PC in for a HD upgrade, They are also NOT registered under the DATA PROTECTION ACT and as such face prosecution under section 21 failure to notify the Information Commissioner. Avoid this store !!!
Tried to return a defective 250Gb hard drive well within warranty period (5 months and 15 days), they didn't have any in stock which is fair enough, but the manager then claimed the item had lost value during the time I had it (!!!) They have offered to replace the item with a bigger capacity 500GB drive if I agreed to pay an extra £26.. the thing is I already paid £38.99 for the 250Gb drive, so the total cost to me would be £64.99.. they sell the 500gb hard drive for £56.97 so they are blately tying to make proffit from my misfortune, and in my opinion that's not right. Shame on you Computer Orbit, my opinion nose dived because of the rubbish your "manager" spouted, I have sales records, service order and each and every telephone call was recorded (all calls on my phone are recorded automatically) - there is no denying it (I can sharp collate these all together in a youtube video if need be) If you only did the right thing, offered me the replacement for the TRUE difference (£17.98) I would have accepted and you wouldn't be faced with bad publicity.. but the "manager" for me turned this into a matter of principal, firstly for trying to worm out of his.your responsibility and secondly for trying to proffit from my misfortune.
I've used Computer Orbit for repairs several times. They told me what the problems were and didn't try and rip me off. And I appreciate that a lot.
Ive never used them before although Ive heard of good reviews. This was the 5th company I rang today to ask for a PSU / Powerpack who actually knew what one was! Theres an awful lot of dumb people out there with shops and these seem so far to be firmiliar with pc termonology and technology. I should write a book with some of the stuff I got today from other places; Q: Do you have a copy of windows Server 2003? A: Yes, we have Microsoft Windows Office. Q:No Windows server OS 2003. A: Whats that? Q: Im after a PSU 350 with ATX connections do you have one? A: Err. The boss isnt in right now but we do all softs of software. Q:Im after a PSU 350 with ATX connections do you have one? A: For what model computer? Q:WHAT? Custom build?? What you on about for what model? A: Oh, ok Ill ring you back with the price. They never rang back!!!
I have used computer orbit for the past year....forget cheap deals on the internet...these can and probably will beat it...the cheapest for blank media and constantly changing special offers....a marvellous shop to browse in also.
