Tasty food, beautifully cooked and presented. Also reasonable price for the 3-course special at lunchtime. We have chicken and sweetcorn soup, a good choice of freshly cooked main dishes and fried rice then either ice cream or banana fritter. You can have orange juice instead of the soup or plain rice instead of the very lightly fried rice. Also can have omelette, chips and peas if preferred instead of Chinese food. Prawn crackers are included and at the end of the meal slices of fresh oranges are brought to the table. We pay £7 per person for the food. Normal tea or coffee costs an extra 80p each. Coffee is nice but the normal tea is not to my liking. Or you can have Chinese tea which seems to be green tea with jasmine - lovely and refreshing. The staff are friendly and attentive but also professional so service is very good. Also, I am English but I see many Chinese people eating at the Happiness Inn which shows to me how good the restaurant is. It is a pleasure when shopping in the busy city centre to pop in there and have a delicious meal in peaceful surroundings. I find it a real treat.
The best thing about this restaurant is that it faces the main road - Percy St, so it is very centralised, though parking can be a problem. Food is Ok, by Newcastle standard, the ambience has got a pre 1960s Hong Kong touch, due to it being set up before the 1960s. But the best thing about this restaurant is its excellent service. The waiters and waitressses are polite and can understand English and Chinese very well.
